SRV records and service discovery
An SRV record can tell a client which host and port provide a service. It also includes priority and weight values used to choose among targets. Unlike A or AAAA, SRV describes a service endpoint, not just an IP address.
For example, _service._tcp.example.test. 300 IN SRV 10 20 8443 host.example.test. sets a target, port, priority, and weight.
Here the target is host.example.test., the port is 8443, and priority and weight help select among records. The client must still resolve the target name and establish the protocol’s connection. SRV does not encrypt that connection or guarantee that a service is healthy.
