Wildcardy, DNAME i reverse DNS
Wildcards, DNAME, and reverse DNS
A wildcard record such as *.example.test can answer for names that do not have a closer match, but it is not a blanket rule that overrides every existing name. Wildcard behavior depends on the DNS tree and can surprise operators who expect it to cover every missing label.
DNAME redirects a subtree at the DNS naming level: names below one node are mapped under another node. It differs from CNAME, which aliases an individual owner name. Reverse DNS uses zones such as in-addr.arpa for IPv4 and ip6.arpa for IPv6; PTR records map reverse names to host names but do not prove identity.
