Lo spazio dei nomi
The namespace
DNS names are made of labels separated by dots. The root is the empty label at the far right, usually shown as a final dot. A fully qualified domain name (FQDN) states its complete position in this tree.
Worked example
Read api.shop.example.test. from right to left: root, test, example, shop, then api. Each step moves to a more specific name. shop.example.test. is a domain; api.shop.example.test. can name a host or another DNS node.
The dots are structural separators. A label has a length limit, and the full wire-format name has a separate limit. Do not confuse a domain name with the URL scheme, path, or port used by an application.
Use training names under .test; they are reserved for examples and should not be treated as public production domains.
