EDNS Client Subnet e geolocalizzazione

EDNS Client Subnet and geolocation

EDNS Client Subnet (ECS) lets a recursive resolver include part of a client’s network prefix in a query to an authoritative service. A content delivery network may use that hint to return an address closer to the client. The trade-off is that more location-related information is shared beyond the recursive resolver.

ECS is not encryption and does not make a response more trustworthy. Prefix length and cache behavior matter: sharing a larger prefix may improve locality but expose more about the user’s network and can create more cache variants. Use it only when the benefit is understood, minimize the prefix, and account for privacy policy and data retention.
